FAQ
General Questions
- What is a Catch the Ace raffle?
A Catch the Ace raffle is a type of progressive jackpot lottery, where participants purchase tickets for a chance to win two potential prizes:
- A weekly prize from the ticket sales of that week.
- The progressive jackpot, which builds up over time until someone wins by finding the Ace of Spades.
- How does the Second Harvest Catch the Ace raffle work?
For the Second Harvest Catch the Ace raffle, participants buy tickets for a weekly draw and select a numbered envelope representing a card from the online deck. Each week, one ticket is drawn, and the card in the chosen envelope is revealed. If it’s not the Ace of Spades, the ticket holder wins the weekly prize (20% of the weekly ticket sales), and the game continues. The remaining 30% of ticket sales from that week will be added to the growing progressive jackpot, which is won when the Ace of Spades is finally revealed. If your ticket is chosen and the Ace of Spades is revealed, you also win the progressive jackpot!
- How are the Weekly Prize and Progressive Jackpot determined and won?
The Weekly Prize is 20% of ticket sales collected during a specific draw week. The Catch the Ace Progressive Jackpot is 30% of all ticket sales collected over the course of the multi-week campaign.
Example: If the draw was made for the 10th week of the campaign, and there were $25,000 in ticket sales every week the total would be $250,000 over the 10 weeks; the weekly prize for the 10th week would be $5,000 (20% of $25,000) and would go to the draw winner for week 10. The progressive jackpot would be at $75,000 (30% of $250,000) and would go to the draw winner for week 10 – if their selected envelope contained the Ace of Spades.
- When are the deadlines for the Second Harvest Catch the Ace Raffle ticket sales?
Weekly ticket sales will close at 8:00pm every Thursday. If the Ace of Spades is not revealed during that evening’s draw, sales for the following week will commence at 8:30pm the same evening.
- Is every part of the Second Harvest Catch the Ace Raffle managed through a digital platform?
All aspects of the Second Harvest Catch the Ace Raffle are managed using a digital platform, or software program, that has been approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
There is no paper generated during this raffle. Everything is digital, including:

- What are the odds of winning in the Second Harvest Catch the Ace Raffle?

The odds of selecting the envelope containing the Ace of Spades begins at 1 in 52 and these odds improve with each weekly removal of envelopes containing a card other than the Ace of Spades.
- What percentage of the raffle proceeds are directed to Second Harvest?
Fifty (50) percent of all raffle proceeds are retained by Second Harvest and, following other raffle costs, are directed to fighting food waste and supporting food rescue and redistribution across Canada.
